Texas approves voter registration compromise bill
Texas Senators passed a voter registration compromise 24 to 6 and sent it to the governor for signature. The measure requires all voters to obtain a new voting certificate before March 1 and then re registrations every two years to purge the rolls. It does not require party registration in advance of elections. Meanwhile, the House stalled on a plan to raise the state water development bond limit from 400 million to 800 million, as Speaker Bill Clayton sought enough votes.
