Memoir excerpt ties Henry Meyer to Texas Civil War tales
Vernon Rawlings of Victoria notes that parts of Henry Meyer's civil war journal, linked to Mrs. Alice Rawlings and others in Port Lavaca, were included in Mamie Yeary's 1912 Reminiscences of the Boys in Gray. Meyer's Confederate service began in September 1861 in Houston, with Company B, Texas Infantry Regiment, Army of the West, and she recounts Shiloh, the Hornet's Nest, and losses among Calhoun county men, ending with thanks to the Northington family for The Yellow Rose of Texas and music by J.K. printed in New York.
