Rangers sweep Red Sox as trade talks stall at Fenway
The Texas Rangers crushed Boston 8-3 in a two game set, but trade talks stalled with the deadline near. Eddie Brinkman and Rick Miller are eyed as possible returns, while Billy Martin complained of being far apart with Boston on a Brinkman for Miller swap. Ferguson Jenkins pitched well in a complete game effort for the Rangers, while Jeff Burroughs hit his 15th homer as Texas piled up 20 runs and 25 hits over the two games.

Mets Passed On Stars And Found Not Yet Born
The excerpt recalls drafts where the Mets chose pitchers Les Rohr and Nolan Ryan, both marred by injuries or control issues, and passed on Reggie Jackson and Steve Chilcott. Ryan later became a star with no hitters, while Rohr’s career was cut short by a back ailment and Chilcott never appeared in the majors.
