Viva Valdez debuts as ABC comedy satirizing generation gap
TV critic reviews Viva Valdez as a blend of Sanford and Son and Good Times with a Chicano Los Angeles family. The pilot centers on Papa Valdez Rodolfo Hoyos and his children, focusing on Pepe’s insecurity about his unplanned birth and parental affection. Strike Fund Gone Rubber Workers Reopening Talks
The United Rubber Workers and four major rubber firms resume bargaining in Cleveland after nearly two weeks of stalemate over wages and benefits. About 60,000 workers lose union strike funds totaling 5.5 million dollars as talks aim to settle a 42 percent package while Firestone negotiates wage and cost of living terms. The strike, marked by sporadic picketing but largely peaceful, has seen companies suspend supplemental unemployment benefits and seek arbitration amid industry diversification.
