Kissinger Contempt Bid Over Covert Ops Stand Rejected
Washington AP report says House intelligence committee chairman Otis G. Pike rejected Ford administration proposals to identify all covert operations abroad since 1961. Pike plans a contempt citation against Henry Kissinger and a possible full House vote if the panel finds the offer unacceptable. The dispute centers on scope and executive privilege as Buchen notes extending documents to 1961 does not waive privilege.

Jail Visitors Stir Dallas County Oil Venture Suit
Dallas County Sheriff’s weekend check of the jail visitor list shows 57 visitors linked to the case, with many identified as Schedule D salesmen later connected to Transland Energy and Oil & Gas Inc. The SEC alleges the salesmen marketed unregistered oil and gas interests via telephone pitches leading investors to buy into wells aided by a dubious oil detecting device. Deputies arrested 43 visitors Saturday and 14 Sunday, releasing some or turning others over to city or suburban police. Investors were promised $1,000 monthly for 20 years, with losses potentially deductible from federal taxes.

The Interior Department filed under the Wildlife Conservation Act to acquire Matagorda Island from private mineral-right holder Joe D Hawes through the Wildlife Conservation Act, challenging Texas plans under the Surplus Property Act. Assistant Interior Secretary Reed cited legal issues and noted Texas Parks and Wildlife lacked a program for endangered species conservation, signaling potential legal conflict over highest and best use.
