Insects threaten sunflowers across several counties
Extension entomologist Dr. Charles L. Cole reports an unidentified fly tunneling in sunflower stalks in Calhoun County and other counties, plus small lepidopteran larvae found throughout the area. In some fields about 80 percent of plants have been killed by this pest.

Burglary at Leonard's Bar Under Investigation

Nearly 200 Calhoun High School girls joined an outdoor education trip to the Aransas Wildlife Refuge as part of their physical education class. Optimists in Port Lavaca sponsor bus fund drive dance
The Optimist Club of Port Lavaca will sponsor a fund raising dance tomorrow night from 9 to 1 at the Continental Ballroom on Highway 35.
