Missing Lawyer Costs Defendant in Contempt Case
Eligio M. Delgado 41 of Port Lavaca faced a $500 fine and six months in county jail for contempt after his attorney Keith Merrick withdrew for lack of funds. Delgado, indicted by Calhoun County Grand Jury in November 1975 for rape of a juvenile, had no attorney at trial readiness. first trial in June ended in mistrial due to deadlock. District Judge Joe E. Kelly urged Delgado to secure counsel or notify court earlier. Delgado was arrested on the July 1975 rape charge.
