Hartford psychiatrist Dr John P Callan says the Christmas blues hit some people especially singles living alone. He notes neurotic low mood differs from psychotic moods, tends to fade after the holidays, and cites loneliness and gift costs as triggers. He advises joining families and community activities to gain contact.
The Our Lady of the Gulf Knights of Columbus Council 3253 plans a 3:30 p.m. ribbon cutting on their first home on FM 3084 across from the county airport, a $100000 all weather building on three acres. Dignitaries including County Judge Willis Jetton and past district deputy Alfred Ramirez will attend with a dedication by Rev. Donald McNally. A 5 to 7 p.m. barbecue and 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. dance featuring Rudy Kurtz's orchestra follow, with statewide and local KC leaders among the guests.
AUSTIN TEX AP The Interior Department has asked Governor Dolph Briscoe to settle a dispute over land acquisition for the Palmetto Bend reservoir project intended to lessen wildlife habitat disruption. Briscoe also has been urged to take action.
President elect Carter conducts first of several interviews for Cabinet positions in the privacy of the Georgia governor's mansion, delaying flights due to fog and rain. He plans to interview in Atlanta today and tomorrow, with more visits likely from Washington, while some visitors may remain unnamed. Carter warns of plenty of guesswork about appointees but intends to announce decisions when firm. He spoke at Plains about local election results and the need for accountability once cabinet choices are made.
Seadrift City Council approved lighting at two Bay Avenue intersections and sent three items for further consideration including naming a city judge and establishing a new accounting system. The council will discuss these ahead of the Oct 1 1977 fiscal year start.
Kurt Waldheim, aged 57, was re-elected secretary-general of the United Nations by the 15-nation council on the second ballot. The vote totaled 140 with one abstention, after a first-ballot veto by China that backed Luis Echeverria, the former Mexican president.
In Washington, Rep. Jim Wright of Texas wins the House majority leader post 148 to 147 over Phillip Burton as party members back a reform agenda. Rep. Thomas O Neill of Massachusetts is chosen speaker by acclamation, with ethics reform and mass transit funding among key aims for the new leadership team.
Richard Reeves says aides to President elect Carter planned to eavesdrop on rival candidates and later network reporters. Two aides assigned a Georgia Tech researcher to refine the plan and lined up 30000 dollars in gear before scrapping after the Ohio primary. Reeves says the idea was revived to listen to network walkie talkies but abandoned when an aide threatened disclosure.

Port Lavaca hosts the Indianola District annual recognition dinner at VFW Hall with George Shields of Corpus Christi as speaker. Shields is Gulf Coast Council president and will be introduced by district chairman Bill Browne. Awards include Wood Badges, St. George Award, Eagle Scouts, and various pack and troop recognitions.
