Felony Charged Port Isabel Man In Marijuana Case
A 17 year old Port Isabel man Rod Eric Bates was charged with felony possession of marijuana on Monday June 27 before Justice of the Peace Bud Emmons and jailed in Cameron County with a 5000 dollar bond. Bates was stopped on a traffic charge when one pound six ounces of marijuana was found. A 16 year old male with Bates was arraigned and taken to juvenile authorities in Brownsville.

Three Lives Claimed In Two Traffic Mishaps
Two separate late June traffic incidents in the Laguna Vista and Harlingen areas left three young men dead. Ismael Arredondo and Juan Alberto Caravello were in a Jeep on FM 510. Arredondo died and Caravello was left critically injured. In the other crash on Texas Highway 100, John Eric Swander and Harold Mancus were killed. Orlando Martinez and Wilson Crouch sustained injuries in a Highway 100 collision near Laguna Heights.

Three Juveniles Apprehended By Island Police
Three youths from Pharr aged 14 to 16 were apprehended by South Padre Island Police on June 23 at a Bayside motel dock. Police recovered fishing gear and charged them with felony burglary of a vehicle and possession of an alcoholic beverage, according to Chief L. Park Jr. The incident began when a motel employee alerted officers and Corporal David Knight detained the suspects within three minutes.
