Port Isabel Independent School District trustees approved appointing a new principal for Derry Elementary starting August. The move, described as not a demotion, places Hall in elementary leadership with a $38,000 salary and a $60 monthly auto allowance. Trustees also approved Region I computer service conversion, a $23,300 budget amendment for equipment, and discussed insurance bids as Blue Cross Blue Shield contract nears expiry. Total April tax collections reached $364,164.53 with about $30 million knocked off the certified roll due to the Brownsville plant shutdown.
