Forty Vietnamese families depart Harvey Courts Edna near Victoria leaving 39 now in Port Isabel as owner Ansel Isbell plans to repair and relet the units. Refugees arrived July 1975 after fleeing Communist takeover. 101 had settled here, with 198 at one time. Reasons cited include finances, harassment, and school district tensions. some remaining plan to leave.

Tourist Development Directorship Discussed On South Padre Island
South Padre Island aldermen voted 4-1 to ban members from serving on both the Tourist Development Bureau and the Board of Aldermen due to a conflict of interest. An amendment allows a non voting ex officio mayor member. The meeting also approved a coin operated laundries ordinance and scheduled a sign ordinance workshop for June 9. Brothers Drown At Beach Off South Padre Island
Two brothers Humberto Garza 8 and Ruben Garza 11 of Brownsville drowned in the Gulf near Isla Blanca Parkoff South Padre Island after being caught in an undertow. Justice of the Peace classified the deaths as accidental drownings. Cameron County deputies were alerted about 8:30 p.m. as one body washed ashore and the other was recovered nearby. It followed a similar drowning the prior weekend involving Reynaldo Olvera 24 of San Benito.
