Tampa Man Buys Lewiston Gerhart Boat in Port Isabel
Tampa man and two Tampa youths arrived in Port Isabel to purchase a sail boat built by Bill Goodman at the Texas Trimaran. The Gerharts bought the boat, secured papers, stocked provisions, and set sail for Corpus Christi then Tampa, with David 11 and Thomas in charge onboard. They stayed at White Sands Motor Lodge and praised the Padre Island area.

Several Port Isabel residents attended the installation of Bishop Adolph Marx as the new bishop of the Brownsville diocese on Thursday morning. Jess Ickes who has served as lighthouse attendant for 14 years resigns effective Wednesday September 1. Frank Mras will assume the vacant position. Mras first came to Port Isabel with the Coast Guard in 1942 and was discharged in 1945 after which he returned to Port Isabel.
