Extension Farm Management Specialist C. H. Bates promotes the rotary hoe as a labor saving device to cut costs and boost yields. He notes it effectively removes young grass and weed seedlings in row crops, speeds first cultivation, and saves time and tractor fuel when used under proper conditions.
Reports mix of calm seas and storm chatter as shrimp boats and unloadings face delays. Local sailors recall past storms, near misses, and coastal defenses while noting minor wrecks and the fleet's fluctuating fortunes.
A garbled account reports barrels counted by numerous individuals and teams at a Southwest Valley gathering. Names such as Dawn, Valley Queen, and Enola Wo appear along with various barrel tallies, with several entries noting six to seven barrels and others around five.
