The Harlingen Internal Revenue Office will be open on Saturday March 6 from 8 15 a m to 5 p m. Local representative John M Buck announced the extra Saturday hours to aid taxpayers who cannot visit on regular days and to extend service to the public.
TB patch tests will be given to Port Isabel school students on Monday March 15. Cards have been sent to most parents and others will receive cards to be signed by those parents who desire to have the patch test given to their children.
The Port Isabel Chamber of Commerce opens its yearly fund drive to support civic improvements better business ideas and increased tourist activity. Workers are split into two groups with the losers buying dinner for the winners as motivation. The drive aims to finish by April 1 with broad local support urged.
The Port Isabel water district lists service numbers to avoid misrouting calls. Business office numbers cover water breaks high bills connections disconnections and the tax office. Filtration plant line handles plant related inquiries. For emergencies nights or weekends call 33 or 191. Cooperation is urged in using the correct line.

A second fire in less than 36 hours damaged the Padre Island dredge owned by B. B. Burnell Dredging Co. Port Isabel. The blaze started before 11:30 am likely from an electrical short, with engines possibly affected. Damagees were reported as considerable and no exact estimate available.
A group including Aaron Todd Merle Farnsworth and D W Hall fished Bay catching trout. Wilford Ferry and others joined the trip and reported catching trout as well in a local Thursday excursion.
Louis Gercia of Harlingen and Jim Sorensen of Lyford reported twelve trout and a four pound red bass on Friday, adding to a day of strong local fishing activity.
On Saturday February 27 George Belcher and W J Finley of Houston caught 27 trout and 49 red. Caruth and Shields of Edinburg caught 16 trout and two red. Jody Goolsby and Cleo Pederson of Isabel caught 43 trout and one red. B J Richardson of Akron Ohio caught 26 trout and nine red.
Houston anglers E. W. Skinner and S. Palmer report a 56 trout haul this week. Fishing conditions were poor for the rest of the period due to westher-related woes.
