Santa Rosa Man Drowns While Surf Fishing

James Hammett 79, a Santa Rosa resident, drowned last Monday while surf fishing in a known spot after reportedly falling into a hole. He is survived by his widow Ruth two sons Walter and James Jr two daughters three sisters and ten grandchildren. The Red Cross secured emergency leave for James Jr from Thailand. funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church Santa Rosa with burial at Restlawn Memorial Park.

Cameron County Commissioners discussed redistricting to align precincts with state senatorial districts affecting five precincts. Precinct 7 Port Isabel holds 12 percent of voters, Precinct 2 Brownsville about 30 percent, San Benito Precinct 3 about 2 percent, and Harlingen Precinct 4 about 36 percent.
