Port Isabel Chamber Seeks Eleven Directors This Year

Ballots go out to Port Isabel Chamber of Commerce members for eleven new directors from sixteen nominees. Ballots must be returned within twenty days to enable quick tabulation and set plans for January installation banquet hosted by Dr and Mrs R W Bassett of Los Angeles visiting Port Isabel from December 23 for two weeks. The Bassett couple are relatives of Ollie Bassett, Laguna Madre Motor Hotel owner, and new officers are announced at the banquet.

Water District Elects Board Members in January Vote

Port residents vote January 7 at the Firemen's Community Hall to elect five directors and an assessor and tax collector for Cameron County Fresh Water Supply District No. The presiding judge is DL Keller with clerks Ernestina Barrera Maxie Garza and Archie Causey. Welfare Committee Sends 18 Food Boxes

The Community Welfare committee delivered eighteen baskets to needy families for Christmas. Freddie Gonzales chaired the effort with local cash donations of about 41 dollars and jars placed in town business houses. Opposition to Courthouse Remodeling Plans Emerges

A Monday meeting of Cameron County business and farm leaders from Harlingen San Benito and Rio Hondo condemned proposed courthouse remodeling. They questioned plans eight architects proposals and a 5 percent architects fee while urging minimal work including a possible fireproof vault under 10000 dollars. They favored using the existing building and recapturing office space if needed and called for public input at the commissioners court review.
