Postmaster Bobbitt urges extra care in addressing and wrapping mail to ensure prompt delivery by Christmas Eve. Use zone numbers and include extra label inside parcels. three cent postage on cards. write both sender and recipient names and addresses clearly. Mail out of town cards and packages by December 10. local mail should start at least a week before Christmas.
Dependents of servicemen and servicewomen become eligible December 7 this year for civilian medical care under Public Law 569 with the federal government paying private physicians and hospital bills. Brig. General L Helmes Ginn notes Texas doctors’ fees will be paid by the Fort Sam Houston Finance Officer. Bills from Texas hospitals handled by the Mutual Benefit Health and Accident Association in Omaha. The administration forms will be mailed to Texas hospitals. physicians may obtain forms from listed sources. Fourth Army HQ will oversee the law in Texas for all uniformed services' physician fees. Eligible members include those on active duty more than 30 days across Army Navy Air Force Marines Coast Guard Health Service.
Port Isabel Chamber of Commerce members formed a community welfare committee to coordinate Christmas aid. Delegates J L Merryman and Fred A Gonzales will liaise with civic groups to recruit volunteers. The Volunteer Firemen plan a bingo on December 14 to fund the Christmas tree effort.
Mrs. Santos Holland, 88, died Monday November 26 at her daughter’s home in Port Isabel after a long illness. She married in Port Isabel in 1888 at age 20 and lived there most of her life. Funeral services were held November 27 at Delta Funeral Home in Brownsville with Father Lawrence J. Fanning officiating. burial followed in Port Isabel cemetery.
The Port Isabel P TA announces there will be no December meeting due to holiday activities. The next gathering is planned for January with date to be determined. Edward A. Fleming from Port Isabel was selected at the Naval Training Center in San Diego as apprentice petty officer third class.
Brownsville officials named four new members to the Child Welfare board with Mrs. Anne Wells approving. Hired replacements include Dr. H Rodriguez resigning. A B Chapa named to Harlingen. Other term limits were noted and duties begin January 1. Combes Street widening plans move forward along with urban renewal discussions.
Port Isabel reports over 500 new citizens and rising enrollment utilities connections postal receipts and building permits reflecting a strong year. The town eyes 5 000 population before year end aided by the Naval Auxiliary Air Base and upcoming civic projects. Rosemary Bebee wins second in Weslaco Birthday fashion show as volunteers craft a floral dress.
Funeral services for Mrs. Ells Mae Dunn 82 will be held at 10 a m Saturday in the Kreidler Ashcraft chapel with Albert Stanley pastor First Christian church officiating Burial will follow in Roselawn cemetery McAllen Pallbearers will be relatives from other areas Mrs Dunn born in Texas lived years in Houston she moved here three years ago to reside with her son T W Dunn at 746 North Sam Houston boulevard
The Port Isabel PRESS survey shows population growth of about 13 percent across utilities, postal receipts, and school enrollment. Population rises to about 4 581 with 530 new residents year over year, alongside increases in telephone and meter connections, postal boxes, and building permits while waitlists grow.
Valley Chamber of Commerce directors will meet December 10 at 8 p.m. in the organization auditorium near Weslaco. Executive Vice President Jack Drake asks all newly elected carryover and retiring directors and all officers to attend. The program will include committee reports the nominating committee report and the election of new officers and directors.
Norman K Stacey resigns as Port Isabel traffic patrolman citing inability to work under the present chief and lack of cooperation within the police department. He recalls issuing seven tickets with only two appealed, both for the same offense, one fined 25 dollars and the other 1 dollar.
Postmaster Bobbitt announced the Mail Early For Christmas program as Christmas card volume rises and parcel post gifts lag behind schedule. He urged sending out of state parcels by air parcel post and stressed that early delivery matters more than Christmas Eve timing for gift cards and gifts.
Mr and Mrs JF Kerhaw and family will spend the next three weeks visiting Mrs Kerhaw's mother Mrs Si F Mills in New Augusta Mississippi. The trip focuses on family time and heritage roots, with plans to tour local sites and reconnect with relatives.
Henry J. Weckrely of Washington Kansas reports catching 10 trout while fishing at Bas Surf or Jetty. B O born and Glenn Rutledge from Home, along with Martin and Ira Guffey of Abiene, each landed trout on January 29.
On Wednesday November 28 at the Bay jetty Henry Weckrely reported twelve trout and two flounder among the day’s fish.
Bay and surf anglers report several dozen trout along area jetties. Henry J Wekrely leads with seven trout while Mrs Cleo Pederson of Port Isabel and Mrs M R Bledsoe of Dallas add sixteen. Houston pair R A Moore tallys nine and Curtis Barr with spouse twenty six trout.
Felix Amy of Mineola and Fd Green with 19 trout. E. B. Levy of Houston and B. Alleman with 26 trout. Babo ONeal and Carter of Houston with 72 trout. Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Barr 16 trout. Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Moore 28 trout. Mrs. Cleo Pederson and Mrs. M. RB. Bledsoe with zero trout.
Sunday fishing near the jetty produced catches including E A Louis Aaron Springer and Tony Wilson of Harlingen with 21 redfish. Doc McRill and Jerry Freeman logged 20 trout, Henry Weckrely and Jody Goolsby 16 trout, David Meyn and Jerry Morris 9 redfish 3 trout and 9 drum, and M I R Bledsec 9 trout.
