First Offshore Drilling Rig Commissioned at Shipyard
Pentagone 82, a 10,200 ton semisubmersible offshore rig, was commissioned at Gulf Marine shipyard Brownsville. It will operate in the North Sea for Sea oond Land Drilling Contractors, a Schlumberger subsidiary, and supports 74 crew. Pentagone 82 is 325 feet long and 197 feet wide with five 31 foot diameter columns and circular pontoons.

Mrs Downs Dies In Harlingen
Mabel Downs 63 of Laguna Vista died Tuesday at Valley Baptist Hospital Harlingen. Native of Toledo Ohio she lived in the valley since 1924 and in Pharr 1936 moved to Laguna Vista in 196. She taught at Pharr-San Juan-Alamo HS and Port Isabel HS. Survivors include husband Marvin Downs son Bill Downs granddaughter Cindy Downs and grandson Mike Downs all of Brownsville. Funeral 11 a.m. Kreicher Ashcraft Chapel Harlingen officiated by Rev Romilly Timmins. Interment Mont Meta Memorial Park. Memorials to American Cancer Society Salvation Army or charity of choice.

Paul P. Maire Jr. Dies in Houston VA Hospital
Paul P. Maire Jr. 63 of Laguna Heights died at 5:30 am on August 30 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Houston. He is survived by his wife Sarah Duggin Maire, a son, a stepson, four daughters, a sister, a brother, eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. No local funeral services are planned. A related census report notes 29.3 percent of U.S. households owned at least two cars in the 1960s-70s.
