County Bonds Would Fund Area Highway Improvements

County voters face a $3,000,000 bond issue on August 26 to fund extensive road work in the Port Isabel Padre Island area. Projects include Park Road 100 extensions, Port Isabel approaches for a new four lane causeway to South Padre Island, and several right of way and utility ventures across Precincts 1 3 and 4 with totals exceeding hundreds of thousands. Brownsville Chamber of Commerce endorsed the plan and officials warn that without bond approval matching state highway funds totaling $22,000,000 for Cameron County could be diverted to other areas.
