Dr John Cunnick, new Port Isabel Medical Center physician and former Dayton Iowa native, addressed Kiwanis Tuesday. He cited smog and cold weather as move incentives, discussed clinic progress, and visions for a community hospital plus future Spanish language outreach. Lieutenant Governor Elect John Lipps attended with Brownsville Kiwanis members.

Census Nears Completion As Cooperation Improves
City secretary Tina Barrera says the census being conducted by local high school students should wrap up within a week if residents cooperate. No findings yet. some homes unused or lacking requested information posted outside doors. A 5000 plus population would qualify Port Isabel for a home rule charter with extra council seats and a city manager. Port Isabel population was 3067 in the 1970 census. The note also mentions the Eastwind locating the tallest iceberg in 1957, rising 550 feet above water with only a fraction visible.
