Died for their Country Private C G L Perrott Anzac Day 1917

Private C G L Perrott eldest son of Mr and Mrs L J Perrott of Albert Park was killed in action on Anzac Day April 25. He sailed February 10 1917 from Outer Harbor and earlier worked as a horse car driver for the Municipal Tramways Trust Port Adelaide. He attended Payneham public school and belonged to the ASA Swimming Club and the Port Adelaide Football Club. He received a life saving certificate in 1912 and was a brother to several relatives in Payneham Thorngate Port Adelaide and Albert Park.

St Marys Literary Society Biweekly Meeting

The May 3 gathering at Semaphore elected a new president and held impromptu speeches. Topics included life in country versus city, limited monarchy, war and Christianity, deadly weapons, education, collegiate benefits of societies, and democracy. The group plans to enter two teams in the Literary Societies Union.

Fox terrier Bubs returns home to Queensland

In a Queensland hometown note a dog named Bubs, a notorious fox terrier, finally reaches his home after police efforts. The owner, Gertrude North, thanks Brisbane readers and requests six copies of Port Adelaide News from May 24 to share with friends and to thank the Sydney police for the dog’s arrival on May 3.

Fire narrowly averted at Port Adelaide roastery yard

Constables Considine and Kennedy spotted burning bags and rubbish near the coffee roasting shed in St Vincent Street, Port Adelaide. They alerted caretaker James Riley, who said ashes were dumped from the furnace on Thursday night. The two officers and Riley extinguished the fire before it spread.

Boys Scouts to Stage All Nations Fair and Concert

The Second Port Adelaide Troop of Boy Scouts will hold an All Nations fair in Port Adelaide Town Hall next Saturday at 3 o clock. In the evening a concert follows at 8 o clock with admission 1 shilling for reserved seats and 6 pence for back seats. Residents urged to support the youths’ effort.

Yatala Band of Hope Society Holds First June Meeting

The Yatala Band of Hope Society met in the Kindergarten Room of Yatala church on Wednesday evening June 5 with strong attendance. Vice-President Mr P Freeman chaired as Mesdames P Freeman and Champion organized a program of songs recitations and a piano solo by Miss L Durling. Mr R F T Hoepner spoke on Self Control and paid tribute to the late Sid Sharp.
