Editorial notes Echo I launched August 12 1960 as a passive 100 foot aluminum coated balloon used to bounce TV signals across the Atlantic. Once seen nightly by readers, Echo I and Echo II gave way to Telstar and Syncom. Echo 1 winds down dipping into atmosphere, with hope it reenters theatrically for old time’s sake.
Parklands Group will organize a new body for the Preservation of Natural Parklands with a program on outdoor recreation and resources. A constitution will be adopted, a permanent organization formed, and temporary officers named including Staw Symon as chairman and Mrs. Joan Lyons as secretary.
Mrs Charles Jensen of Flanagan thanks friends relatives and neighbors for remembering her during a hospital stay. She also thanks St James Hospital staff and Dr Rudnicki.
Junior Girl Scout Troop 404 hosted a dad night at Lincoln School with each scout planning her father’s meal in a decorated box. The Thoroughbred Patrol led the flag ceremony while the green campers patrolled singing. William Tipler spoke on What Is A Girl and Lisa answered with What Is A Dad. Tie Troop presented two readings Pershing at the Front and The Duet. The game Fruit Basket Upset was played by fathers and daughters who danced to Daddys Little Girl. Friendship circle and Taps closed the evening. Mrs. Ernest Ledford assisted the leaders.
FAIRBURY The engagement of Dorothea Emily Mueller daughter of Mr and Mrs William A Mueller of Western Springs and Robert A Goold son of Mr and Mrs James Goold of Fairbury has been announced by her parents The bride to be will graduate from Purdue University in June with a bachelor of science degree Mr Goold was graduated in January from Purdue and is employed by Central Farm Credit Corporation in Fairbury A July wedding is planned
Deborah Honegger, daughter of Mr and Mrs Jesse Honegger of Forrest, a junior at Forrest Strawn Wing High School, is chosen by J A Folwell Unit of the American Legion Auxiliary to attend Girls State June 11 to 18 at MacMurray College Jacksonville. Alternate Deborah Carmack selected as well.

The Sannemin Woman's Club wrapped up its year with a program at the Methodist Church. Mildred Haried led the devotions and read "Your Land and My Land." Mary Jensen introduced sisters Ann Barbara and Jean Scott, who sang, while Mildred Hantey and Edith Mies presented slides on "Our Home Town." A cash donation to the mental health project was given, new officers were installed by Mrs. Helen Bennett, and refreshments were served by Selene Spafford, Helen Quigley, Gene Brant, and Patricia Simpkins.
Saunemin American Legion Auxiliary named officers at the Mother’s Day dinner led by Jean Thanaa as president and Carroll Cantrall as first vice president. Beatrice Spaf ford and Bernice Ehrhardt also named to roles with Jean Demapoulos chaplain and Martha Vitethim sergeant at arms. installation set for June. Betty Johns and committee oversaw the event. Mothers of veterans received flowers at a special table.
Miss June Kavanaugh honored at a miscellaneous shower held at New Hope Presbyterian Church in Coal City. Games were played and duplicate prizes awarded. Lunch for 80 guests served by Mrs. Alex Edgar and Mrs. Ernest Seamen of Coal City and elsewhere.
Waldo area brief mentions Mrs Eli Roesch ley, Mrs Vernon Ringenberg, and Clinton Reedy being discharged from St James Hospital in Pontiac and returning home. Lester Baughman of Zion City, formerly Waldo, visited. Mr and Mrs Thomas of Normal dined with Jerome G Albrecht’s family in Waldo. Salem Children's Home directors met with Gridley chair Letwiller, Folkers, and Gerry in Waldo. Mrs Albrecht recovering from surgery in Kankakee hospital. Albrecht leg injury from construction and crutches. Edward Bachman family visit sister Mrs Zehr in Nebraska Township.
