The funeral for 83 year old Mrs. Ethel Louise Schifler Bacon of 624 Water Street was held Saturday at 10 30 a m at Raleigh J Harris Funeral Home. Rev Crawford Harmon of First Christian Church officiated with Mrs Ethel Marvel as organist. Burial followed at South Side Cemetery. Pallbearers were Henry Moore Maurice Beier Kenneth Gray Wayne Ziller Wayne Slith and George Sullivan.
Louisville Kentucky and Illinois are the only two states exempt from the Social Security law which requires that federally financed programs for needy children be organized under one agency. Each has a separate cabinet department of child welfare because the law says Kentucky and Illinois "found a better way to get their services to needy children."

Ivan Morlan 63 longtime Newtown Township supervisor died at 5 45 am Sunday at his home after an apparent heart attack. He was elected in 1961 succeeding Arthur C Dixon. Morlan served on county committees and worked as maintenance supervisor at Knoedler Manufacturing in Streator. Funeral set 2 pm Wednesday at Wintergreen Funeral Home Streator burial Hillcrest Memorial Park. He was born April 13 1905 at Wayne County son of Jerome and Arra Best Morlan. He married Amy Punty June 28 1922 in Fairfield. Surviving are his wife his mother three sons two daughters four sisters and several relatives. He attended Presbyterian Church.
Alta Carroll of Graymont spent the winter in Bonita Springs Florida and traveled home last Friday visiting Dunnellon artist Mable White. White is listed in the Who's Who of the Art World and has works in the Governor's Mansion and a Rainbow Springs exhibit that Carroll attended.
The funeral for Mrs. Betty Jane Teel, 83, a former Saune Min resident, was held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Raleigh J. Tarris Funeral Home. The Rev. Crawford Harmon officiated, with Ethel Marvel at the organ. Burial followed at Five Mile Cemetery. Pallbearers were William Schauble, Carl Schauble, Charles Mies, Tom Spafford, Satmemin, Larry Ziller, and Walter McCulley.
The surprise is that only 1250 copies of Charles Darwin's Origin of Species were printed and published in the first edition and they sold out immediately, stunning the author.
Mrs Helen Lorraine Linn aged 70 of Pontiac and Chicago died at 8 am at the Odell Shelter after a year of illness. She was the daughter of the late William and Grace Tal bott of Pontiac. Her body was taken to the Raleigh Harris Funeral Home with arrangements incomplete.
