Final crop insurance reporting deadline announced
Area farmers who hold federal crop insurance policies must report their crop acres by June 30. Reporting after the deadline risks losing coverage for previously damaged crops, says Albert Dalton Jr. of the Indianapolis service center. The FCI serves five states with about 22,000 spring crop contacts.

County special education praised by state report
A state team from the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction commended Livingston County's Special Services Unit for its special education programs and staff. The 11 person team cited excellent facilities, a bilingual program in Pontiac, and a preschool initiative, while noting 16 recommendations including hiring a social worker and improving high school vocational training and public relations.

Livingston County Special Education Census Totals 1028 Placed
The Livingston County census shows 1028 students in county and area special education programs. Of these, 640 are in speech therapy, 203 in educable mentally handicapped classes, with 12 in a Mid Central Association program in Normal. The remainder attend various countywide programs across 20 districts. Approx ten percent of county students participate in special education. The census was completed June 14 by Richard Amstutz, director of the Special Services Unit.
