The University of Chicago ombudsman Joel Levin logged 65 complaints in 1973 from bicycle security to housing and restroom issues. He notes remoteness from students breeds indifference, while higher offices may bend rules for individuals, revealing how human nature fuels systemic inefficiency.
Storms raked central Illinois with high winds and tornado sightings near Chenoa and Minoak. No touchdown reported in Livingston County though winds damaged trees and two-block paths in Minoak. Other tornadoes seen in Wapella, Fisher and Evansville with wind damage across several counties.
Ronald V. Hirst, former Pontiac High School speech and English teacher, joins Faraday J. Strock at 303 W. Washington St. in Pontiac. A 1969 Illinois State University graduate, he earned cum laude from Loyola University Law School in 1973 and was editor in chief of the Loyola Law Journal. He practiced at Sidley and Austin in Chicago before returning to Pontiac with wife Margaret, residence 929 E. Water St.
Chief Pontiac Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution sponsors a June 25 genealogy workshop in the Bank of Pontiac community room. Registration starts 9 a.m. with the session from 9:30. Mrs. John Devanney of Lincoln will direct and has years of local research experience.
The ALCW of Cornell Community Lutheran Church met June 12 with Mrs. Howard Thime as hostess. Mrs. Albert Seeger was named delegate for the district convention June 25 and 26 at Illinois Wesleyan University Bloomington. The circle lesson was The Word given by Mrs. Charles Russow Jr. Devotions were led by Mrs. Clarence Ferguson Sr. and Mrs. Clark Husted had the offering. The next meeting will be July 10 with Mrs. Robert Beck as hostess.

Forrest Branch of the American Cancer Society reports a total of 2 172 55 collected across Forrest Pleasant Ridge and Fayette townships. Crusade chairman Clark Stanford notes 28 solicitors raised 1 414 10 in Forrest with co chairs Vivian Broadhead and Hazel Franklin. Pleasant Ridge led by Helen Hoke and Marjorie Waibel contributed 439 with seven solicitors. Fayette drive under Mabel Marlar and Verla Davis netted 319 45.
Thirty four Shay relatives gathered in the Bank of Pontiac community room for a potluck supper and reunion. Attendees came from Union Hill Effingham Arlington Heights Normal Cornell Pontiac and Redland California. O H Shay was oldest and David Husted youngest. Mrs Janet Daniels Batchley traveled farthest. Mrs Harold Monroe was elected president and Mrs Lyle Girard secretary treasurer. The group also attended William Daniels and Gladys Shay Daniels 50th wedding anniversary in Pontiac. Next reunion set for the fourth Sunday in June.
