Illinois Treasurer Alan J. Dixon and Senate President William C. Harris will attend the VIG Golf Outing in Pontiac on July 20. The event, sponsored by the Industrial Council of the Pontiac Chamber of Commerce, includes breakfast, lunch, a fashion show, and a dinner dance with over $1,000 in prizes. Committee chair William H. Durham announced the plans and listed local organizers and supporters.
Graymont Board of Education approved the Open Court curriculum for all six grades and planned training for teachers. The board also authorized purchase of a first aid kit, a Burroughs calculator, and printing needs. William Fawcett resigned. Anthony Turiciano was hired for upper grades PE and coaching. Salaries for cooks and the school secretary were tabled for July. Next meeting is July 2 at the school.
A miscellaneous bridal shower honoring Joyce Drach was held in the grade school gym Friday night with hostesses Barbara Drach Herbert Tiarks and Sarah Lafond. Thirty five guests attended and prizes were awarded to several guests. The couple plans to marry July 13 in Pontiac.
The American Lutheran Church Women of the First Lutheran Church heard Rev Oliver Kalkwarf explain the Lutheran worship service. Eleanor Sandham led the business portion as the church plans a 20th anniversary week June 16 to 23 with the theme Thanks Be to God. Linda Ruby will serve as a delegate to the district convention in Normal June 25 to 26. Hostesses included Jerema Abraham, Marie Johnson, Ethel Johnson, Marge Tribley and Hazel Schneeman.
Mr and Mrs Marwood Hendrix of Herscher announce the engagement of daughter Margo Mae Hendrix of Kankakee to John George Branz of Bourbonnais. She is a Herschel High School and University of Illinois graduate. employed as controller at Hendrix Town and Country. He is a Saunemin High School and Illinois State University graduate with a Marycrest College degree. works as assistant accounting officer at Kankakee Federal Savings and Loan. A Sept 28 wedding is planned.
Scout Troop 76 held a roundtable at the American Legion Hall in Dwight with Mel DeChesne Wayne Stith Jim Rhode Elmer Gruen and Michael Nussbaum. A chapter conclave at Wenosa Quendota Lodge of the Order of the Arrow featured Roger Peterson DuChesne Smith Rhode and Nussbaum. Paul Ryerson Stith Gruen led boys in the Memorial Day parade with Mike Fry DuChesne Lawney Gruen Tom Dix Robert Wilson Steve Harris Leroy Smith Gary Masso Tim Byrne Kevin Bromiley Scott Harrington Paul Peck and Jeff Vogel.

The United Methodist Church of Chenoa sponsors a July 4 benefit supper for Bobby Yergler, son of Glen and the late Lillian Yergler, with food donated and tickets available by donation. Proceeds support medical needs as Bobby remains in a coma after brain tumor surgery.
Merritt A. Oakes 69 of Emington died at 6 a.m. Friday at Carle Foundation Hospital Urbana. Funeral 1:30 p.m. Sunday Baker Funeral Home Dwight with Rev. Richard C. Muhleman officiating. Burial Union Cemetery. Survived by wife Arlene Smith. two sisters Marie Hansen Cabery and Viola Baurley Seymour. He retired from farming in 1968 and was a United Methodist Church member. Friends may call after 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Miss Lou Ann Littlefield and Stanley R. Jacobs exchanged marriage vows at noon on Saturday June 8 in Normal at Epiphany Catholic Church. The couple will reside in rural Chenoa after a Florida honeymoon.
Miss Karen Louise Weakman daughter of Mrs DL McCarty Thawville and Earl Weakman Forrest wed Craig W Ohmart son of Mr and Mrs Donald Ohmart Launemin at 7 p m Friday June 7 Rev Leonard Carlson officiated. A reception followed at the church. The newlyweds reside in Bloomington both graduates of Saunemin High School.
Mrs. Elmer Schultz hosted the South Side Club annival breakfast at the Palomar Inn. Eleven members answered roll call with their pet peeve. Readings by Mrs. Fern Triunfol and Mrs. Clyde Sandham. Mrs. Schultz presented plants to Mrs. Triunfol and Mrs. Ralph Douglas. Next hostesses named for Sept. 12.
