Spalding Fined After Back-End Crash on Madison Street

Miss Lucy L. Spalding, 18, of 843 N Locust St, received a ticket for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident following a 1 40 p m crash on W Madison Street. Raymond C Reineke, 49, of 1223 N Mill St, was stopped in traffic when Spalding struck his rear, causing $100 damage to the 1968 Chevrolet and $50 to the 1971 Chevrolet.

Truman Dies at 88 Former President Passed Away in 1988

Former president Harry S. Truman died at age 88 after a life marked by blunt leadership and long public service. Tributes poured in from world leaders and colleagues as his passing ended a era from World War II to the early Cold War. He had retreated from active politics, lived in Independence, and enjoyed visits from dignitaries at the Truman Library.
