Stamp forgers targeted by postal inspectors
The U S Postal Service reports that postal inspectors and Secret Service agents shut down three major bogus stamp operations in the past year. The largest involved five men in Tennessee who printed about 170000 dollars in counterfeit 50 cent stamps intended for mailing cocaine packages smuggled from Mexico and South America.

Chicago and Rockford See Drop in Serious Crimes in 1976
FBI data show Chicago reported 163,604 serious crimes in the first nine months of 1976, down seven percent from 1975, with increases only in murder or non negligent manslaughter. Rockford recorded 7,949 serious crimes, down one percent from 8,021, with mixed shifts across categories. Chicago and Rockford were the only Illinois cities in the study with city level breakdowns.

Forrest News: Injury at TP and W Railroad and Holiday Events
Rick McWhorter, son of Mr and Mrs Owen McWhorter, injured when an engine wheel fell on his leg at Peoria on December 15. X rays showed no fracture and he stayed overnight at St Francis Hospital. On December 19 Forrest United Methodist Church held a march to the manger with a live nativity scene. The F-8 W Eskimo Club plans donations toward a weight machine for the athletic program, hoping donors cover 60 to 60 percent of the cost.
