New federal rule effective Dec 31 1971 mandates heat treated glass or impact resistant lenses for all new eyeglasses and sunglasses sold in the United States. Contact lenses are exempted as they are already made of plastic.
Bausch & Lomb notes that impact resistant lenses, promoted as safer, are stronger after December 31 but not invulnerable. The lenses must withstand a 57 inch steel ball drop from 50 inches, yet remain not equivalent to industrial safety glasses. Safety goggles advised for high hazard work or hobbies.

The funeral for Grace E. Todd, 85, of 205 East Water Street, was held Saturday at 1 30 p m at Home. The Rev Glenn led the service and burial followed in Five Miles Cemetery at Saunemin. Pallbearers were Richard Todd Floyd Todd Chenoa John T Lopeman Lloyd Rich Herman Johnson of Saunemin and Robert Zimmer of Pontiac.
