At the start of 1967 the United States maintained more than 1 million fighting men stationed at over 3,000 bases overseas. The distribution included 365,000 in Europe, 40,000 in Japan and Latin America, 50,000 in Korea, 10,000 in Africa and the Middle East, and 500,000 tied to the Vietnam conflict.

Farmers should verify totals and contact the Livingston County ASCS Office to correct any errors.
Santa Ana California AP notes a telephone directed supermarket robbery yielding $5,000. Market manager Richard Hathcock 52 says a man with car trouble entered his home, pulled a pistol and ordered him to call assistant manager Anthony Porceillo 35 at the store two miles away. The thief received $5,000 in a paper bag, delivered to a blue sports car idling outside, then the car sped off and the caller severed the line. He was described as polite.
Odell residents report visits to Markham and Chicago to meet Ruth Ann Sinn, teacher from Sacramento. Loyal Daughters Class plans Christmas cookies for Vietnam veterans at Great Lakes Naval Hospital. Agnes McCabe celebrated 88th birthday at The Odell Shelter. Odell American Legion posts hosts annual Christmas party for local children with a film and Santa.
South Side Neighborhood Club holds its Christmas dinner and meeting with officers re elected for 1968. President Mrs Clyde Schneeman, Vice President Mrs John Wessels, Secretary Treasurer Mrs Dewey Munson, with details of reports and nominating slate. The event at Pauls New Log Cabin, with Mrs Lucy Pritchard hosting and secret pals revealed. January meeting at Mrs Clyde Sandams home.
A Louisville area report claims Abraham Lincoln was arrested near Lewisport at age 18 for river ferrying without a license. He allegedly acted as his own counsel and was acquitted after ferriing a passenger on the Ohio River while employed in Indiana, with the tale tied to Mrs. Charles Young and family.
The Cornell Grade School hosts classroom Christmas parties Thursday with a film at 11 45 am and lunch moved earlier. Santa arrives about 1 30 pm, children receive candy from the Cornell Community Club, and dismissal is around 2 30 pm with a closure until Wednesday Jan 3 per Principal Richard E Dishinger.
AP Chicago market report shows Dec Wheat at 1.45% close, Mar 1.50%, May 1.55% gains. Corn Dec 1.15% close, Mar 1.20%, May 1.24% rise. Oats Dec around 0.75, Mar around 0.82, May near 0.72. Soybeans Jan 2.68, Mar 2.72, May 2.78 with small percentage shifts.
