Rafe hides under cliff as Bathsheba crashes the pack horse in a canyon firefight. Spangler’s gang searches the gulches for him while he plans a risky escape amid gunfire and falling rock.
In a cold, high desert night, Rafe struggles with a growing sense that a larger conspiracy stalks him. Burned grass, distant rifles, and a poised pistol frame a scene where light, fear, and execution postponed hint at deeper motives behind the drones and danger surrounding Spangler’s group.

Washington says in 16 months of overseas operations four Peace Corps volunteers have died and 74 have returned to the United States. A total of 3,642 corps members are serving abroad in 38 countries and another 862 are in training. Of those returned, 14 resigned, 19 were medically recalled, and 33 were relieved for failing to adjust to primitive living conditions.
The Livingston County American Cancer Society group met Friday at Paul’s New Log Cabin with about 50 attending from each township to learn more of the county cancer work. Dr. Erle McConnell of Danville spoke on "If You Only Knew" and is active in Vermilion County and the state chapter.
Dr. McConnell urged cancer awareness while James Jones of Odell urged annual physical exams. The event promoted voluntary cancer work with 60 percent of funds to remain in the county and introduced Dr. Hugh A. McIntosh as Livingston County Medical Society chair. Mrs. was announced.
