Cornell residents weigh buying a new ambulance

Blas Olveda rites set for Thursday at St. John
Funeral services for Blas Olveda 82 will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church in Fairbury with Rev. Charles Clifford officiating. Burial follows at Arcola Cemetery. Visitation is Wednesday 7 to 9 p.m. at Duffy Pils Memorial Home with an 8 p.m. prayer service. Olveda, a Fairbury resident for eight years, died Saturday night at St. Bernard’s Hospital in Chicago. He was born March 26, 1892 in Mexico and was a World War I veteran with 35 years at a steel mill and 20 years as a truck gardener. He is survived by his nephew Miguel Salinas of Fairbury and other nieces and nephews.
