Bank Debits Rise Over Year In Pontiac

Checks cleared by the two Pontiac banks rose 22.20 percent last week from a year earlier. The week total reached $5,239,955.37 versus $4,288,084.67 in 1968, up $951,870.70. The prior week totaled $5,042,461.76, also lower.

Coroner's juries rule in six deaths

Six inquests into fatal injuries from traffic accidents last week yielded accidental, avoidable, or ne widental rulings by coroner Vernon Van Qualen. Among the cases were Dawn Lassenger and Kathleen Mixon of Dwight, Dawn’s sister Donna, and Mark Brucker of rural Cropsey, plus Alfred Montelius of Piper City, Dareyl Mitchell of East St. Louis, and two Pontiac women L Lois Young and Alberta Parker in a two car crash near Pontiac. Jurors cited driver errors and one case involved a milk truck collision on Route 24.

Fonting Man Escapes Injury In Railroad Signal Crash

Dennis Edrin, 23, of 1108 N Walnut St, escaped injury when his 1968 Mustang struck a railroad signal on U S triad near the Norfolk and Western Railroad one half mile north of Pontiac at 8 25 p m. Estimated damage is $1000. Trooper Walter Bellz investigated.

Pontiac Local Tax Share From State Income Tax

Gov. Richard B. Ogilvie announced the distribution of 6.34 million dollars to local governments from November income tax. Pontiac received 4,918.72 and Livingston County 11,201.695. The plan provides each locality with one twelfth of the tax revenue collected. Other Livingston County communities listed include Campus, Chatsworth, Cornell, Cullom, Dwight, Emington, Fairbury, Flanagan, and Forrest with various shares.
