20th Century Club hears Christmas Carol

Mrs. R. J. Harris Sr. led a program for the Twentieth Century Club at Mrs. C. M Dorgan’s home. She offered a shortened version of Dickens A Christmas Carol. Mrs. Thomas Ewing sang carols with Ruth Ann Richardson on the glockenspiel. Tea followed.

Odell seniors plan Christmas dance at high school gym

Odell Community High School senior class met Monday night to plan a Christmas dance. The event runs from 8 to 10 p.m. on Saturday December 20 in the high school gym and is open to the public. Music will be provided by the Mac V.

St Mary's Pupils Seek Help From Congressman Arends

Fifth grade students at St Mary’s School under teacher James Feeney sent a letter to Congressman Leslie C Arends asking for information on anti pollution aids for local use. Arends replied with thanks and noted the federal effort to address the serious threat and wished the students success.

Athenians Hear Program by Mrs Westall at Club Meeting

Mrs Ray Westall spoke to the Athenia Club at Mrs Vi Opperman’s home Friday evening. She described Miss Helen Battle’s life from the book Every Wall Shall Fall and recounted Battle’s experiences as a prisoner in East Germany from the fall of 1961 to January, when she was jailed for helping an East Berliner escape to West Berlin.

The funeral for Agnes Speers age 64 of 522 West Washington Street was held Tuesday at 1 30 p m at Raleigh Harris Funeral Home with Rev Glenn Strang of the Presbyterian Church officiating Organist was Ethel Marvel Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery Pallbearers were John Weist Richard Stone William L Bressner Gaillard Wagner Richard Dillon and Henry Wagner The service included a Christmas tea hosted by Mrs Ledford and Mrs A W Clay temporary weather data and water service notes follow.

Mr and Mrs Leslie Edwards of rural Pontiac will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house from 2 to 4 p m Sunday December 14. Their children invite relatives and friends to join the event at their home.

TOPS Club Christmas Party At First Methodist Church

The Chief City Slimmers TOPS Club held its annual Christmas party on Thursday December 4 at the First United Methodist Church. A potluck dinner was served and gifts exchanged. Secret pals revealed and Doris Friedman of Fairbury named queen of the week.
