Chicago Transit Workers Win Highest Pay Scale Contract
The Chicago Transit Authority and Amalgamated Transit Workers union reached a three year deal featuring the nation’s highest pay scale for service employees and bus drivers. Wages rise 60.5 cents hourly in five steps, retroactive to Dec 1, with additional increases on Dec 1 1969, Jun 1 1970, Dec 1 1970 and Jun 1 1971. A $75 annual clothing allowance and a $50,000 insurance program for driver injuries are included. CTA fare adjustments expected to cover costs.
