A total of 155 Pontiac Township High School students earned high honors for the second six weeks as announced by Superintendent Paul Blakeman. The list includes students with 4 A’s and 1 B, 3 A’s with 2 B’s, and multiple 2 A’s and 2 B’s among others.
Nine persons were arrested during the weekend and taken to the Livingston County jail. John F. McPherson, 23, Chatsworth, faced deceptive practices charges, paid a $25 fine and costs, and was released to Warren County authorities. Wallace Simmons, 32, Chicago, received seven days for operating license violations. Earl Pointer, 42, Streator, charged with no valid license and unlawful use, posted $50 bond. LeRoy Frisco, 52, Chicago, arrested for carrying an uncased gun in a car, posted $100 bond. Ralph W. Hanson, 37, Streator, charged with DWI, stop-sign violation, and disorderly conduct, released after $100 bond. Melvin Harmon, 61, and John Kelly, 69, Ottawa, charged with hunting without owner’s consent, each posted $100 bond. Lee T. Smith, 46, Chicago, speeding and license revoked, to appear in court. Robert R. Miller Jr., 17, Ladd, charged with reckless conduct, to appear in court.

Switch costs Sweden $125 million to convert to right hand traffic. Officials say the price could have risen, but many Swedish cars already had left side steering wheels, easing the transition.
Springfield reports Illinois earned the nation’s triple crown in exports in 1966 with manufactured products totaling 1.9 billion and agricultural exports at 686 million. Governor Kerner notes Illinois led in total exports at 2.5 billion, beating California and New York, as U.S. exports totaled 29.4 billion that year.

Denotes students carrying five or more subjects.
Bloomington official Martin Glover urges Medicare beneficiaries to file claims promptly for physician expenses. He clarifies coverage for nonhospital services and that filing can occur after the year of service. Payment is made by private carriers, with two claim methods and SSA form SSA-1490 guidance.

Potluck dinner and a 50 cent gift exchange planned.
