Waldo residents marked Graymont feed mill anniversary on Saturday while Glendon Albrecht called in Bloomington. Mr and Mrs Lester Litwiller visited Waldo from Carlock and Miss Ella Birkey with John Albrecht hosted Thanksgiving guests Me and Mrs Aaron Becker. Bernard Highland and son John Mark of Streator visited. Rudy Schertz of Eureka spent Sunday in Waldo. Floyd Hartzler had a tonsillectomy in Bloomington and returned home. Habitat notes Morton, Chenoa visitors, and a death in Manson Town. Waldo locals Walter Porzelius and others traveled to Lesington on Tuesday. Classified Ad Dept phone 5000.

Fern S. Gunkel, named one of Detroit's Ten Top Working Women of 1960, will retire December 8 after 25 years as Detroit's International Hostess at the International Institute. A Pontiac township high school and University of Illinois graduate, she joined the YWCA in 1934 and helped build Detroit's first International Institute, greeting and coordinating visitors including foreign dignitaries and celebrities.
Mrs Reuben Metz named to nominating committee and varied gifts approved. Mr and Mrs W R Metz and others visited A H Randolphs in Decatur where Mrs Randolphs sister Mrs LaHue of Idaho was a guest. Strawn school Christmas program slated for Dec 12 15 with events in Forrest and Wing. About 90 attended Forrest Women’s League and Club meeting November 17 featuring Elaine Haah playing and a cooking school with Christmas Ideas demonstrations.
A total of 125 calves from five beef herds in the county were tested for weight and grade as an extension service by the University of Illinois. Weights and grades were adjusted to the 214 day weaning age and by calf sex and dam age. Owners include Harold Aherle and others with helpers from several farms. Kauai note appears as an unrelated line mentioning the Hawaiian island.
The public library reports a November book influx led by librarian R. W. Witt. Non fiction acquisitions include works by Darrow, Goldwater, Roosevelt, Shirer, Kazantzakis, Teale, and more, alongside numerous fiction titles by Hersey, Hurst, Leivin, and others.
Robert Barr of Port Matilda Pennsylvania and Rebecca Ann Parker of Benson North Carolina were named the nation s top 4 H achievement winners at a national banquet. Each received a 400 college scholarship and a sterling silverware chest from President Eisenhower. Barr is a Penn State freshman active in dairy projects. Parker is an East Carolina College sophomore focusing on clothing and home economics.
Dwight Band Parents club set a Dec 3 Fun Night with co chairs Harold Ohlendorf and Marion Sandeno. They will host the county band festival Jan 21 and serve supper for 500 participants. The grade and high school bands will present a Christmas program at the Dec 19 meeting. The Young Women's Guild approved purchases for the church and planned outreach and fund contributions. A seven pound five ounce girl, Laura Guy, was born Nov 30 to Mr. and Mrs Ray Williams of Bourbonnais with extended family listed. Keith Van Qualen, a Michigan State freshman, is among five MLBU bowlers to make the university team after high qualifying games.
