Flanagan Unit 4 Board of Education accepted the resignation of Kathleen Thorp after 10 years as Flanagan High School English teacher she moves to Streator Elementary District. The board approved a contract for Susan Zumdahl for 1972-73 as high school English teacher and senior play director. A tuition request for Mary Jo Huxtable to Illinois Central College was approved. Daily bids from Illinois Valley Ice Cream Co. for milk and bids from FS Livingston Service Co. for gasoline and fuel oil were approved with suppliers Yordy Chevrolet Flanagan and Robert Weichman Flanagan.
S Barnard of New Haven stays with his mother Mrs Edna Barnard in Flanagan while Joanne Bartlett of Chicago visits family there. The board reviewed 1971 72 expenditures and tentative 1972 73 budget with a public hearing set for Sept 14 at 3 pm. They approved gym roof repairs and bills totaling 3326 47 split among Education Building and Transportation. Next meeting is Sept 14.
The marriage of Mrs. Carolyn Whitwood of Hudson and James Hepperly of Bloomington took place August 11 at the Christian Church in Hudson with immediate family and close friends in attendance. They honeymoon at Lake Geneva Wisconsin and will reside in Hudson after returning. Parents are Charles Mullen of Chenoa and Ernest Hepperly of Pontiac. Both newlyweds are Chenoa High School graduates.
The council discusses tentative costs for the Fairbury sewage plant to meet new requirements. It accepts the resignation of city policeman Wendell Cooperider, effective Sept. 1, who leaves to take a job at Fairbury Hospital after January service. Alderman Runyon calls for stronger bicycle sidewalk bans, with the mayor to consult the Police Chief. Maples street parking limits are adjusted and residents asked to trim branches below six feet for pickup.
The fourth annual Cornell Community Sale is scheduled for Saturday August 26 at the Cornell Fire House. Items must be at the fire house by 9 a.m. for tagging. donations can be picked up on request. A 10 percent commission applies to items over $1. Lunch supports the Cornell Community Club and Cornell Volunteer Fire Department.
Mrs Harold Rowe and Mr Carl Curtiss hosted a Sunday barbecue for relatives including Carol Humphrey and Angela Humphrey of Phoenix and the Leathers of Yuma. Guests from Pontiac Rockford Chicago Momence and Peoria joined events in Sterling and Pontiac. Carol Humphrey and Angela departed to Phoenix after a three week visit. Terry acted as ring bearer at Louise Moore and John Whitver’s Sterling wedding. Carol Ann Moore visited Bloomington relatives.

Brarn Christianson aged 42 was arrested by State Police on a DWI charge. He remains in Livingston County Jail awaiting a court appearance.
The funeral for Paul Fitzgerald 47 who died of a heart attack at a C W Sitton Drilling site near Bloomington will be at 11 a m Saturday at Cardiascio Funeral Home Flora with the Rev Thomas Wyatt officiating burial in Elmwood Cemetery Flora Friends may call 5 to 9 p m today at Cornell Lutheran Church and 5 to 9 p m Friday at Cardiascio Funeral Home Flora East Lawn Memorial Chapel Bloomington is arranging services He was born Sept 28 1924 in Shelbyville son of John A and Mellie Mae Cooper He married Phyllis Lipscomb Nov 6 1947 Surviving are his wife mother two sons Kenneth Meridian Miss and Mark at home four daughters Linda Ahrens Odell Vicki Garner Severn Md Joanna Fitzgerald Pontiac and Sally at home four brothers Carl Emory Harry all of Flora Alonzo St Joseph two sisters Louise Hudgins St Louis and Edna Meadows Louisville three grandchildren He was a World War II veteran.
