Officials decide nothing can be done in Tuskegee study
The 40 year Tuskegee syphilis study involved about 400 Black men in Macon County Alabama who received no treatment. Peter Buxtun, a former PHS venereal disease officer, says a 1969 review concluded no treatment would be provided. CDC reports and Dr William Brown supported the decision citing age and dormant disease, despite later penicillin use.

City issues 46 building permits totaling 285210 in July
City Building Inspector Clarence Jones reports 46 permits in July with a total value of 285210. Of these 27 building and remodeling, eight electrical, seven demolition, and four sign permits were issued. Builders include Heart of Illinois Builders and B and C Construction among others for houses, garages, canopies, porches, and remodels. Sign permits go to Bertsche and Berry Insurance Barham's Mermaid Pet Shop and Ken Life Neon Sign Co.

The Emington plot on Curtis Bane farm lies 1.5 miles south of Emington on the east side. The Saunemin plot near the high school parking area tests soybean varieties and studies on populations plant spacings planting dates and companion rows. Group guided tours can be arranged by appointment. Kankakee Man Ticketed After Route 23 Crash
Adreon Miller, 54, was ticketed for failing to reduce speed after a crash on Route 23 two miles west of Cornell at 4 a.m. Trooper James Kennedy cited him after his southbound Chevrolet 1971 left the road, hit an embankment and trees, and rested in a ditch. Damages were about $1,000.

Jerome M. Jontry senior vice president of Esquire Inc and president of Esquire Publishing Group has been elected to the company board of directors announced by president A L Blinder.
