Train Hit Vehicle. Livingston Man Injured on Church Street
A Livingston man, Ricky Lynn West, 51, was injured when a train struck his 2000 Chevrolet Impala on Church Street at 3:07 p.m. West pulled forward to avoid a red light, the arm lowered onto the car, pushing it onto the tracks. He was taken to Livingston Memorial Hospital with minor injuries and later released. A cold beer can was found near the vehicle. blood will be tested for alcohol. The train was cleared at 4:23 p.m.

County jobless rate falls to 7.9 percent
Polk County unemployment eased to 7.9 percent in August, down from 8.3 percent in July, with 1,422 people seeking work out of an 18,055 labor force. The rate is lower than August 2012’s 8.5 percent, and the year’s high remains 8.8 percent.

Unusual circumstances cause two accidents in Livingston county
Texas Highway Patrol investigated three accidents on Sept 27 and surrounding days. Justin Preas, 31, of Onalaska escaped injury when a bag blew into his face on FM 356, but passenger Melissa Shannon, 41, suffered non incapasitating injuries. A separate three vehicle crash on US 59 near Sand Creek injured only Michael Gwin, 66, of Romayor with incapacitating injuries. A third incident on US 190 East involved Donald Barlow, 28, of Cleveland, with non incapasitating injuries. No charges were filed in any case.
