H and T C absorbs four rail lines in 1901
The Houston and Texas Central Railway acquired the Austin and Northwestern Central Texas and Northwestern Fort Worth and New Orleans and Granite Mountain and Marble Falls City lines on August 22, 1901. Originating as the Galveston and Red River Railway in 1848, it was renamed in 1856 and later controlled by Charles Morgan and Southern Pacific before leasing to Texas and New Orleans in 1927. The H and TC merged with the T and NO in 1934.
