Laurens High Juniors Honor Seniors at Banquet

The Laurens High School Juniors hosted the Seniors at the Masonic temple dining room last Friday evening. The pink and white decor featured potted plants and flowers and a menu served to about forty guests included consomme and creamed potatoes. Vernon Barnhizer acted as toast master as toasts followed courses with Electricity as the theme, naming Dynamo, Insulators, Transformers, Magnetic Field, Incandescent Lamp and other topics discussed by Helen Mather, Mike Hurley, Fred Gilchrist, Fred Ferguson, Miss Kurt, Miss Knight, Miss Hole, Miss Portlock and Prof. Wood.

Meeting Recital Delights Club Members

Miss Trenary presented an excellent paper on Iowa. Mrs. Dennis Hurley attended and offered instrumental solos, entertaining all. The May meeting adjourned with plans to meet May 6th with Mrs. Chas. Swanson.

Man Hurts Hand At Press Feeding Job

Elmer Spear suffered a severe crushing injury to his right hand last Friday while feeding the press. Four fingers were badly crushed and the first joint of the second finger nearly tore off. medical prospects are cautiously optimistic though several weeks of recovery are expected.

Judge Coyle Rules Bidding Not Binding At Public Sales

Judge D F Coyle ruled that bidders at public sales in Iowa are not required to take stock or articles purchased when not delivering. In a January case a buyer who intended to purchase a span of horses allegedly bid up the price, yet refused to take them and won in court. The decision protects buyers who retract after bidding at public auctions.

Co. Supt. Bradshaw announces Grace Eaton named regular deputy, to begin May 1. The appointment is well earned as Eaton has a proven record in teaching and will provide effective service in her new role.

State to Expand Food Inspectors Force May First

Dairy commissioner W B Barney announced four new inspectors will join May 1 two for weight and measure service and two for dairy law enforcement Ames will supply two workers and the federal government will provide one for butter improvement Iowa. The department will buy two auto trucks for inspectors to carry testing weights statewide.

Motorcycle Rider Hurt In Head-On Crash Near Olin Young Place

Last Thursday F. H. Frevert rode west on a motorcycle when B. G. Spiess and wife emerged from the road in a newly purchased J. F. Kraska Ford. The vehicles collided head on, Frevert knocked through the windshield and bruised. McAfee helped bring him and the wreckage to town. No serious injuries reported to others involved.

Birthday Surprise for Mrs McNee at Home Party

Neighbors gathered at Mrs W A McNee's home to celebrate her birthday on April 24. A large luncheon featured a center cake with many candles. Mrs J P Shoemaker presented a thermos bottle and case, with the recipient exclaiming she felt like Polly Anna. Mrs C E Narey joined as an out of town guest.
