Battle on a Locomotive Between Engineer and Fireman
On a Lake Erie Alliance railroad engine a fight broke out between Edward Benitz the engineer and James McSwigan the fireman over Miss Julia Spieler of Berg Holz. The train ran 25 mph as Benitz pummelled McSwigan on the tender until a brakeman separated them. They resumed duties with no report made. Miss Spieler is described as a respected young lady.

Swept by Flood Illinois River Valley Inundated
A severe rain storm swept the Illinois river valley causing widespread damage. In Hi ton across the river from Peoria several houses were washed from foundations. people fled in night clothes to the railroad grade and hills. Farmdale saw three feet of flood water in homes. Cattle hogs and crops were ruined over a wide area. One death was reported in Copperas Creek valley Fulton county. A farmer named Gray and his three sons fled, with his wife reportedly left behind.

Sixty Die in Railway Bridge Collapse at Moenchenstein
A June 14 accident on the Moenchenstein and Baltic railway caused a bridge collapse under a crowded excursion train. IOWA WRECK ON MILWAUKEE ROAD AT COON RAPIDS
A Milwaukee Road derailment near the Coon River bridge in Coon Rapids Iowa left one passenger dead and many injured. Henry Cardon of Perry Iowa died instantly while John McCarthy was fatally hurt. nineteen others suffered various injuries as the train plunged into the river after a defective track caused the locomotive to leave the rails. The train included a mail car baggage car two coaches three sleepers and a chair car. The engineer and fireman escaped. Physicians treated injured passengers from nearby towns as authorities investigated the cause amid storm and darkness.
