Thursday Study Club Meets At Mrs Ellis Home

The Thursday Study Club held its January meeting at Mrs W C Ellis home with seventeen members present. After a brief business session the topic A New Nation and a new Problem was postponed. Mrs Fullerton gave a paper on the life of Mrs Pennypacker. Miss Viola Noble provided piano solos and Miss Knight sang. A buffet luncheon followed before adjournment to meet February 4, 1915 at Mrs Whanton.

A large number of members gathered January 22 at Mrs. W. A. McNee's home for a regular meeting. Mrs. Ashby spoke on Public Utilities and Mrs. Taylor led a Round Table on Modern Movement for Public Health. Discussions covered disease prevention, sanitation, and school health. The group adjourned to meet February 12 at Mrs. McCombs.

Dennis Hurley and Viora Noble were secretly married in Des Moines last Monday after Viora informed her father. The couple, both raised in the area and Notre Dame bound, were joined by college mate James Lynch of Notre Dame Indiana. The license notice appeared in papers Tuesday with friends wishing them well. Chas Horick Dies After Illness and Death in Oakdale Sanatorium

Friends recall Chas Horick once a stenographer in the Allen and Gilchrist offices. He died last Wednesday after leaving town for Oakdale tuberculosis sanitarium and was buried at his Washington home Saturday. He was quiet and unassuming, earning many lasting remembrances.

Funeral Tragedy Follows Man Felling Trees

C J Speers returned from Pontiac Illinois after attending his brother's funeral. The brother was killed by a falling tree while he and a hired man were cutting. A daughter narrowly escaped injury as a large forked limb toppled toward her, crushing the uncle before he could reach her.
