Cecil Starkey of Sacred Heart School Pocahontas won first prize with ten dollars. Bernice Shearon of Highth Grade Fonda Public School placed second for five dollars. Tena Aden of Lincoln No. 5 earned three dollars. Margaret Flaherty of Sacred Heart School Pocahontas took four dollars and fifty cents. Willie Fisher No 5 Des Moines Township received one dollar. Adrian Deveraux of St. John's School Gilmore City earned one dollar. Esther Burnette of Rolfe Seventh also listed among winners.

Thursday Study Club Holds Thimble Afternoon Meeting

The Thursday Study Club met at Mrs. Frank Johnsons home for a Christmas themed gathering. Mrs Harper delivered a paper on Woman in the Home, with magazine articles enhancing the topic. Miss Hole demonstrated cocoa and chocolate while hosting hot chocolate and waters. The Caswell sisters sang a vocal duet and Corine Satterlee recited Dolly's Present. Guests included Alma and Celeste Caswell and Courtright. Adourned to meet January 7, 1915 with Mrs. E R Satterlee.

Lecturer Fails to Show Up at Local Lecture

A Friday evening audience waited for Gunckel to speak but no lecturer appeared. Secretary Carlson learned a December note claimed Gunckel was sick since September and could not attend, though the secretary says no such letter was received. The local committee and Bureau blame each other for neglect or miscommunication. The rescheduled program remains undetermined.

The Redpath Bureau is praised for fairness and is expected to settle the matter properly. Local committee holds leverage to ensure a satisfactory adjustment if needed. Many country residents traveled in the cold to attend, leaving disappointed as no substitute or payment could right the situation.

Ames Iowa December 21 special notes foot and mouth disease improvement allows expanding a nonstandard short course at Iowa State College. It will be stronger than county programs with livestock care, feed and management, horse judging, soils crops and horticulture, poultry, dairy management, livestock health. Teachers, boys and girls get special tracks. Night meetings on rural topics planned. People within five miles of infected premises urged not to attend.

A stormy Sunday at the Church of Christ brought a large gathering and joyful responses to worship. Members described the day as challenging yet uplifting with hearty participation and warm fellowship.

A. C. Tyler sale set for Thursday January 14 at Shannon ranch seven miles west of Rolfe and five miles north of Pocahontas. The event will be large and include about 25 horses 25 cattle 50 hogs and a large quantity of farm machinery wagons and harness.
