Joseph Schranb sued Interurban Railway Company and C. T. Paerr over blacklisting after being discharged for carrying passengers on a caboose. Rock Island Officials Discuss Train Schedule Changes

Hal S. Ray and H. J. Gibson attended a smoker with Atlantic business men to discuss the removal of No. 26 eastbound local and No. 17 westbound local on the Rock Island division. Final land cost figures for Des Moines capitol extension

Governor Clarke received a formal cost report showing the state paid about 1,125,060 for 247 lots. The original land estimate was 1,200,000, making the purchase roughly 75,000 under budget. The project is nearly complete except for Jack Beyer and Joseph Wall parcels on Eleventh and Des Moines streets, which will be acquired later, keeping total cost about 50,000 under the initial estimate.

Miss Flora Dunlap, president of the Iowa Equal Suffrage association, returns to Des Moines from Milwaukee with pledges totaling 500 dollars from the Wisconsin convention Evanston Suffrage league and Chicago leaders Mrs Catherine Waugh McCulloch and Mrs Ella S Stewart. The Wisconsin convention also votes 100 dollars for Iowa and agrees to campaign for personal pledges matching that amount under the slogan Wisconsin for Iowa.

Pardon petitions circulate for C B Lake in Keokuk

Petitions advocating clemency for C Bruce Lake, govt clerk once found short on county accounts, are circulating in Keokuk and gathering signatures. Lake, imprisoned at Fort Madison, has served three years after conviction. Pending cases against him and his bonding companies seek repayment.

Yates Given Eight Years For Manslaughter

J Albert Yates was found guilty of manslaughter for shooting and killing Dick Rees at a coal mining camp near Chariton. He received an eight year term in the Fort Madison penitentiary. Attorneys have filed notice of appeal.

Patent Infringement Charge Against Fort Dodge Bridge

Edward Thatcher of Chicago, via his attorney, informs Fort Dodge that the city infringed certain patents in a bridge erected this year. He seeks a royalty of 10 percent on bridges costing 10 000 dollars or less and 5 percent on more costly structures.

The $50,000 suit brought by Robert Henderson state printer against J M Pierce editor of the Homestead was dismissed at Des Moines. Henderson sued over Pierce s charges in his paper against the current method of naming the state printer and binder.

Street Car Kills Dubuque Woman

Mrs. Martin Meyer, 52, was fatally struck while crossing street car tracks in front of her home in Dubuque. In dodging a southbound car she was hit by a northbound vehicle. She leaves a husband and several children.

Iowa State College Farm Week With Conventions Set

OWA HAFPERINGS Yield Large and Quality Fair In Webb ster County Street Car Kills Dubuque Woman Fonda Boy Hurt In Football Game. The big winter short course and farmers' week at Iowa State College Ames Jan 31 to Feb 5 will feature farmers conventions and conferences. Nearly a dozen arranged with more planned for clay and cement industries. Meetings cover all agriculture areas and conclude with a banquet for 1,000 to 1,500 attendees. Animal husbandry groups and the Iowa agricultural experiment association with 1,000 members will meet. The Iowa Fruit Growers and horticultural courses will join, while the Iowa Forestry and Conservation association convenes Feb 2. Iowa teachers of agriculture will hold their first conference Feb 4.

Commandant Horton to resign long Iowa Soldiers Home tenure

Commandant C C Horton of the Iowa Soldiers home at Marshalltown resigns effective May 1 1916 after eighteen years leading the institution. He was reappointed for four years beginning January 1 1915 but seeks rest at age seventy six and will move to Wyoming to live with his sons J Lisle Horton in Clearmont and Frank Horton in Buffalo.

Iowa teen breaks corn yield record on single acre

Wade R Hauser, age 17 from Union Hardin County, raised 150.1 bushels on one acre to win first prize in a state contest involving 1100 contestants across Iowa. The event, led by Professor E C Bishop of Ames, state director of the boys and girls corn club, operated with federal agriculture support. Fourteen youths exceeded 100 bushels.

Death of Jackson convention survivor marks Republican origins

George P. Criswold, a young Michigan attorney and 1854 Jackson convention member, died at his Marshalltown home at eighty six. He helped birth the Republican party and was a former candidate for judge of the Thirteenth district. He leaves a widow and four children after two years of declining health.

Train Crash Kills Dozens In Georgia Carnival Car Fire

A head on collision six miles west of Columbus Georgia between a passenger train and a twenty eight car carnival train caused a fire destroying twelve carnival cars and killing many animals. Six people were confirmed dead with dozens injured and eighteen missing as animals perished in the blaze. Mr and Mrs Fred S Kempf and their daughter Hazel were nearby. Hazel survived with injuries while the parents perished. Kennedy predicted many more fatalities.

Police believe a dynamite bomb found in a wheel rut on John D. Archbold’s estate in Tarrytown New York was intended to be activated as he rode his car on the South roadway from his home. Motorboat Upsets Claim Five Drown Near Rockaway Point

A twenty foot motorboat capsized in a squall off Rockaway Point near New York. Captain David Lorenz owned and piloted the craft which stalled its engine and filled with water. Five men died including John Ullinger, Charles Ullinger, Joseph Hoffman, Albert Benavisez, and Lorenz. William Webber and Henry Rossa survived after their life belts saved them and were picked up by another boat.

Corn Picking Under Way Near Duncombe Iowa

Corn picking is well underway around Duncombe in Webster County amid a picker shortage. Yields per acre compare favorably with past years, ranging 45 to 65 bushels. Anthrax Death At Endicott Tannery Worker

William C. Eldredge, a tannery worker in Endicott, N Y, died from anthrax. Dr C H Wilson of Johnson City and Burt Nelson of Binghamton declared after examination that the disease was positively demonstrated. Eldredge cut his neck slightly while shaving a week earlier and fell ill several days later.

Porter Charlton, an American formerly of Omaha, who faced trial at Como, Italy for the murder of his wife, was found guilty and sentenced to six years and eight months in prison, and was released on Monday.
