Havelock residents report visitors and callers from Rolfe Pocahontas Humboldt Fort Dodge and other towns. Several families plan trips to Minnesota Illinois and Fort Dodge while others host guests at home. The piece notes a Ladies Aid dinner and a family moving to Fort Dodge.
The regular M E church services are set for Sunday October 19 with morning sermon on The Supreme Task of the Church and evening sermon The Man in the Middle. Evening service starts at 7 30. Ladies Aid serves a public dinner Saturday noon in I C C F hall for a farmers elevator hauling bee. Pocahontas County Sunday School convention at Ware Thursday and Friday. public invited to attend sessions.
The Havelock town council at a regular meeting passed a resolution ordering a cement walk to be laid along the described property and assessed costs against the property as provided by law and ordinances. J. A. Dickerson, Clerk. H. Murray, Mayor.
At A. C. Prossner's southwest of Havelock a quiet Tuesday evening wedding joined Guy Whisler and Pearl Stacy in the M. E. church ring ceremony conducted by Rev. William P. Webb. Attendants were A. C. Prussner and Mrs. Prussner. A three course repast followed as guests offered best wishes.
One man died and another remained in serious condition after a street dispute over cards. Italian men were involved and the quarrel escalated to revolver fire. Thomas Dickerson of Boone pleaded guilty to horse theft and received five years at hard labor. Louis Fritz of Ida County was acquitted of seduction charges after a 10 hour jury deliberation. John Jackson of Mt. Pleasant stole a horse and buggy and left town. he claimed he needed transport to go nut ting. Marysville near Knoxville dismissed schools fearing diphtheria. A Renwick hardware store and residences were burglarized. burglars were captured with loot in a corn field. Centerville reports two youths arrested and a third sought for assaulting a girl. one acted as escort while others waited roadside. A petition to appoint a receiver against Mason Motor Co. of Waterloo, filed by F. W. Powers trustee, seeks to recover about 100000 for bondholders.

The State Historical Society of Iowa has published a biography of Senator James Harlan. An 1898 Mount Pleasant address recounts a Potomac crossing with Lincoln after Richmond fell, noting a changed, serene, almost transfigured president and a final in life drive shared by the two men.
A circular from Attorney General Cosson directs county auditors to require sworn affidavits with property lists. Previously owners merely signed lists of holdings without an affidavit. The move underscores that property assessment is crucial and state law must be enforced to the letter.

Mrs Neil Tilton and Floy Anderson visited Humboldt over Sunday. Fred Neilson hosted a party for the B V H club last Saturday evening. Mrs Chas Tilton with Mrs Kellogg and Mrs Wilson rode to Rolfe later in the week. Atherton and Harold Lees visited Frank Atherton later in the week. McCabe from Clare came to see her mother, while Mrs. Solon of Rolfe visited friends there. A birth announced on October 9 1913 and another on October 7 1913 featured in local notes. Mrs. C D Junea of Toledo planned extended visiting with her son Dr. Jones. Mrs. P R McCormick of Varina and Miss Nora McCormick of Pocahontas visited relatives here. John Marshall and Miss Jennie Gaughan announced their Des Moines ceremony with marriage. The Mission at the Catholic church drew good attendance despite bad weather. Lawrence Meech returned home from Ford garage duties in Rolfe. Eila Adama leaves for Des Moines to study nursing. Marie Shultz learned of her sister’s illness via telegram.
Iowa State College stock judging team swept the Intercollegiate contest at Kansas City winning the Kansas City Stock Yards association trophy for top team. Members Reynolde Swan Walker Marchant Swift and Duncan placed first through third individually, coached by Prof. Pew. Awards include a large silver loving cup and three individual cups brought to Ames. Plan First Trade School Waterloo Iowa officials discussed establishing the state’s first trades school funded by $25 000. Present were R E Pearson and A Marston and K G Smith to explain the school’s workings.
Des Moines reports Senator McColl surveyed potential tracts for a state colony for epileptics noting accessibility and water supply as key needs. Other items include Parole Board calls for reform and transfer of parole power, bar exam results praising Vincent Star singer from Des Moines, and state banks increasing deposits with ten new banks organized.
