City officials push a bond proposal to fund a new city hall, library upgrades, and a fire station. The plan, supported by county state and federal boards, asks for funds through an appropriation. Officials aim to place the measure on the ballot to gather voter approval and ensure project completion. The cost is listed as 1000.
Pleasant Grove approves a water works project funded by Works Progress Administration. The plan calls for an $11,000 expenditure with $6,945 supplied by sponsor and $4,063 from federal funds. City officials have pursued approval for about a year. Pipeline work will start, with Shanks supplying materials and about 25 workers.
Three Lehi youths caused a scene when their topless roadster overturned in front of the Pleasant Grove library during a city council meeting. They were scratched but not seriously hurt, a whiskey bottle found, driver underage and unlicensed. They faced later appearance before a justice. Relatives attended Marvin Gisoy's wedding reception at Sharon ward with many gifts.
Pleasant Grove notes a flurry of visits and errands as residents travel to Grenville and Salt Lake areas, teachers begin new assignments, and weddings, birthdays, and family news fill the week. Local students prepare for college, while hospital updates, river and farm ads, and community events mark the weekend.
All Third Ward fathers and sons are invited to meet at 2 p.m. Saturday for a trip to the Dell with a cooked supper and program. If you cannot attend, notify ward officers who will arrange a replacement. Fatherless boys will be paired with a foster father.
Mr and Mrs Joni L Williams announce the engagement of their daughter Ruby to Niels Pugal son of Mr and Mrs Niels Pugal. The marriage is planned for the Salt Lake temple on Thursday October. Ruby served as librarian at the local high school for two years and has worked for the Provo Herald the last two years. Niels has completed a mission in the Eastern States and is a student at Brigham Young University Hawaii UL.
Miss Donnie Walker of Vineyard led her class to Pleasant Grove on Tuesday to learn from an educational lecture and view Pioneer Relics in the log cabin. With Captain Holman ill, Mrs. Rose B Hayes and Mrs. Pearl Wadey guided the tour, inviting other classes to visit by contacting Captain Annie Holman or Mrs. Hayes.
Elections held September 16 select seniors and juniors officers with presidents, vice presidents, secretaries, and class reps named for each grade. Faculty committees include gatherings, assemblies, dances, graduation, advisors, and sports coaching assignments for 1947 38 school year.
The Timpanogos stake genealogical society and committees announce their monthly union meeting in the Third ward Sunday afternoon. Fast day sacraments occur in Timpanogos stake wards Sunday morning. Due to the October conference, meetings are moved one week earlier. Relief Society ward conference is set for September 20 in the First ward with Mrs. Jennie W. Johnson and President Ella M. Cragum speaking. Musical numbers from the Singing Mothers led by Mrs. Mary Neves. A.A. Anderson will recount the National Jamboree story at the Mutual meeting in the Third ward. Scouts will perform, a surprise is planned, and a full house is hoped for.
Miss June Jordan formerly of Pleasant Grove and a Brigham City beauty operator wed Richard Cullimore son of Mr and Mrs William Cullimore of Lindon at the Salt Lake temple on Wednesday evening September 15.
Manila Ward convened a ward conference Sunday night and released Bishop Lawrence W. Atwood from his long tenure. Merrill Warnick and Helga V. Swenson also step down as counselors. Tela V. Swenson is named bishop with Mer nN. Warnick as first counselor and Virgil Meredith as second. Atwood served over nine years since the Timpanogos Stake organization. His health prompted the change with thanks from ward and stake members.
About 49 men to be discharged on September 30 1937 will soon draw on their Job Training knowledge. Correlated Classes held Tuesday mornings teach technical theory while practical work solidifies skills, shaping future employment prospects. Captain Riley replaces Liet. Moskowitz at Camp F-6 Soapstone as Moskowitz returns to Brigham City. John Kushinroff earns 100 percent on truck inspection at Fort Douglas, his diligence inspiring others. WPA crews advance cabin construction at Scout Lake, with Foreman Amos Wakefield directing the overlong schedule and overtime work not yet completed.
A large crowd gathered Wednesday evening to hear a report and discuss reassessment of all timbers and improvements. State Tax Commission had notified the people. LeGrande Jarman led the meeting with speeches by Bishop Frank Snell y American Fork and others. A Provo trip was planned to protest the tax raise. W. W. Warnick Manila district Neils Fugal Pleasant Grove district and Albert Anderson Lindon named as committee spokesmen.
A Swenson couple donated a Joseph Smith plates picture to the Manila ward Seminary. The piece hangs prominently, admired by teachers and students.
