Grovecrest School Elects PTA Officers at September Meeting

Grovecrest School elected officers for the Parent Teachers Association at a Thursday September 15 meeting. Mrs Toby Hirabayashi was named president with Mrs Byron Carter as first vice president and Donna Ash as second vice president. Other officers include Mrs E M Williams secretary and Mrs Harold Prestwich treasurer. The by-laws were read and remarks on duties given by Mrs Austin Moyle.

Pleasant Grove celebrates Its Fair Day with three local royalty figures headlining. Lavina Pugal is American Mother of the Year for 1956, joined by Strawberry Days queen Thum Lee Dinebaugh and Miss Pleasant Grove Shuree Smith. The day features exhibits, judging, open houses, a flower show, a tractor rodeo, baseball, football, and a community variety show with acts and a film showcasing Utah Valley.

Old Central School smoke stack falls to progress

After 14 years the brick smoke stack at Central School was toppled by two tractors on a sunny Sept. 21. Spectators watched the demolition as the tall landmark vanished, making way for a modern school building to rise from the dust and rubble.

Sewer at Battle Creek Heights Now Assured

Mayor Howard Roberts reported that the final agreements guaranteeing the extension of the city sewer to Battle Creek Heights have been signed. Builder Mr. McGormick will pay $18,000 for the extension. The May or urged republication of the ordinance detailing extension and rebate provisions for petitioners seeking sewer service. Sidewalks to Grovecrest School will be completed this weekend.
