Adult Education Starts Classes in October in Pleasant Grove

Adult Education and Community School classes begin the second week in October. Registration is at Pleasant Grove Recreation Building. Contact Bill Hoglund or David McCuistion for details. Pottery, Home Repair, Cake Decorating, and other classes including Acrobatics, Auto Maintenance, Dry Flower Arrangement, Gymnastics, Karate, Modern Dance and Oil Painting will be offered.

Five Management Appointments Made at Geneva Steel Works

Five management appointments in the Rolling Mills Division at U.S. Steel's Geneva Works were announced by L. E. Ringger. Don M. Adamson Lloyd P. Carlton Thomas J. Cosgrove A Leon Smith and John A. Livingston were named to key engineering and foreman roles with prior Geneva service and relevant degrees.

Michael Harding Completes Air Force Basic Training

Airman Michael K Harding, son of Mr. and Mrs Gren L Harding of Pleasant Grove, has graduated from Air Force Basic Training at Lackland AFB Texas and will pursue security police training. He is a 1977 Pleasant Grove High School graduate and earned a BS in industrial management from Brigham Young University.

Forest Service improves facilities at Mill Campground and North Mill

The Pleasant Grove district reports near completion of Forest Service upgrades at Mill Campground in American Fork Canyon. Forty two new and expanded camping units along with paved roads and a water system are set to open next season. North Mill Reservation Area also receives improvements including new parking and group camping, with reservations beginning January.

Lindon Citizens Party Convention Set for Oct. 4

Utah Power and Light Sells Long Term Bonds and Preferred Shares

Utah Power and Light Co accepted bids on a 50 million dollar sale of first mortgage bonds and a 12 million share issue of cumulative preferred stock. The underwriter groups were led by Salomon Brothers and Kidder, Peabody Inc, with prices set to yield about 4.2 percent for bonds and eight percent for preferred stock.

Pleasant Grove Jr High elects class officers

Last Friday September 16 at Pleasant Grove Jr High three officers were elected from each grade. Ninth graders Hal Gillman is president with Bill Oliphant as vice president and Karyn Carlson as secretary. Eighth grade leaders are Stacey Gillman president Tracey Beagley vice president and Christine Smith secretary. Seventh grade officers are Kelly Sanderson president Shauna Keetch vice president and Shauna Richins secretary. They will plan parties dances and assemblies while upholding a B average and school rules.

Volunteer Work Boosts Pleasant Grove Ranger District Efforts

Harry Optar Pleasant Grove District Ranger cites over 1,000 Utah Valley residents contributing about 525 work days to Uinta National Forest projects. Volunteers cleaned littered sites painted shelters at Emerald Lake Mount Timpanogos and Cascade Springs with groups from American Fork and a ten man prison crew. Forest officials praise hours and urge visitors to adopt environmentally aware habits to reduce cleanup needs.

A Cappella Choir Ready to Sing at Planned Tour

Officers of the Pleasant Grove Hill School A cappella Choir announce a busy year with a 47 member group. The choir aims for several engagements across wards the Christmas variety show and an eight day East Coast tour including appearances at St Patrick's Cathedral Rockefeller Center and the Lincoln Memorial Washington. Members will canvas the area for support and attendance at concerts and fundraising events.

PTA President Ruth Bezzant invites all parents to Back to School Night Thursday September 22 at 7 pm. The event begins in the auditorium then moves to classes to meet teachers. Refreshments will be provided and the school seeks Campbell Soup Labels.

Collector Roads Public Hearing Set for October

A public hearing on October 18 will finalize a collector road map showing traffic flow through the city. Center Street, Fifteenth East are favored for extension to ease First North and Thirteenth East congestion. Bonneville Drive was dropped. a canal-adjacent road may aid cross-town traffic.
